Description

UCL School of Management is delighted to welcome,Felix Danbold, Stern Business School,to host a research seminar discussing ‘Who Gets to Represent Us? Understanding Dominant Groups’ Reactions To Diversity’

Abstract

As demographic diversity grows and organizations strive to make good on their promises of increased equity and inclusion, I address the challenge of working with those who remain hesitant to embrace this change. My research explores the unique identity concerns that members of dominant groups (e.g., White Americans, men, etc.) experience in the face of growing diversity. Across three populations (White Americans, university students, and men working in STEM), I identify why diversity is perceived as threatening and which members of these groups are most susceptible to this threat. I then build off this work to introduce a field-tested strategy for increasing support for diversity in organizations, looking at the context of women in the fire service.
