Earlier this month, second-year Management Science students took part in Scenario Week on Level 50 of One Canada Square as part of the programme’s ‘Design’ module. Led by UCL School of Management Lecturer Lorenzo Todorow, this week-long event saw students working in close collaboration with DHL - the world’s largest contract logistics specialist - to provide innovative solutions to their specific business challenges. A key part of the BSc/MSci Management Science programme, Scenario Weeks occur throughout the year and require students to work in teams to address complex interdisciplinary management problems.
Kicking off the week, UCL School of Management welcomed DHL Vice President of Solutions Design UK&I to Level 50, where she presented two scenarios to students, tasking them with delivering innovative solutions. Half of our Scenario Week participants were tasked with optimising Crossrail construction deliveries, while the second half of participants were asked to consider how they would revolutionise London’s wholesale markets through sustainable solutions.
On Tuesday, four Product Design Researchers from DHL joined us in Canary Wharf to provide hands-on guidance and data to students which would support the development of their projects and solutions. We were also thrilled to welcome Anna White, former IDEO Consultant and design-thinking expert, to One Canada Square where she presented a masterclass on applying design methodologies to complex business challenges.
On the final day of Scenario Week, student presented their projects to Emma Taverner and Andrew Weyer, DHL’s Chief Information Officer UK & Ireland, and we are thrilled to share that the winning team for the Crossrail project consisted of Kimberly Shi, Dmitry Minko, Beno Papay, Abdullah Emin Demirci, Inés Gutiérrez Gorostiaga and Constança Pereira de Sousa. The winning team for the London Markets challenge consisted of Evelyn Nguyen, Sofia Su, Burton Cheung, Jaihan Khurll, Zixuan Zeng and Amy Dai.
In recognition of their achievement, both winning teams have been invited to meet DHL’s design team and tour Gateway - DHL’s most automated warehouse in the EU - which includes a lunch with their fantastic design team. We would like to extend our warmest thanks to the team at DHL for your incredible contributions to our Scenario Week.
