UCL School of Management alumni and brothers Udit and Suchet Singhal have created a new award designed for exceptional undergraduate students at the School. After graduating from our BSc Management Science (Class of 2023) and BSc Information Management for Business (Class of 2020) programmes respectively, Udit and Suchet have gone on to successful careers and are now looking to support the next generation of leaders at the UCL School of Management.
Designed to recognise and celebrate students who demonstrate exceptional all-round ability, the Singhal Award will be presented to one BSc Management Science student and one BSc Information Management for Business student, with winning recipients receiving a citation and a handcrafted magnum of Champagne Challiol & Charmetant courtesy of the Singhal family. Winners preferring a non-alcoholic prize will receive a luxury lithophane as a prize from the Singhal family.
Udit Singhal founded zero-waste initiative Glass2Sand during secondary school to lend a solution to the problem of overflowing landfills. At age 18, he was appointed as one of the United Nations’ 17 Young Leaders for the SDGs. Whilst still a student at UCL, Udit was named in the Forbes 30-Under-30 list of 2023 as the youngest member at just 21 years of age. He works in Sustainable Investing at a global asset manager in London.
Suchet Singhal has gone on to notable success in the corporate world. After graduating from UCL School of Management’s BSc Information Management for Business programme in 2020, Suchet is progressing his career at an asset management company in Mayfair, London and an awarded sustainability start-up specialising in quantifying carbon emissions.
Udit and Suchet co-founded the luxury champagne brand Challiol & Charmetant in 2018, drawing on decades of experience of their entrepreneur parents in the Champagne region. Among several recognitions, they were registered as the first Indian vignerons in Champagne. Respecting tradition, they revived a historic label from the 19th century and ‘ancienne’ sustainable techniques to produce the much sought after magnums of Champagne Challiol & Charmetant.
Discussing why they chose to launch this award, the brothers told us, ‘We are proud to institute the prestigious Singhal Award as our way to give back to a community of intelligent academia that enriched us with a forward-looking mindset to equip us for the professional world. The award honours exceptional students who made a meaningful impact during their time at UCL, contributing to the programme, the School of Management, entrepreneurship, or society alongside outstanding academic achievements.’
2024 winners of the Singhal Award will be announced in July. Programme Directors Maya Cara and Andrew Whiter will determine the overall winners.
