Simulation developed by UCL SoM Professor wins Innovation in Accounting Award

An app-based simulation, developed by UCL School of Management Professor and Programme Director Lynsie Chew and Unicorn Simulations, has been shortlisted for and won the PQ Magazine Innovation in Accountancy Award at the PQ Annual Oscar Awards Ceremony in London earlier this month.

The Icarus Accounting and Business Simulation was developed in 2015 and has gone on to be used by thousands of students and on short courses worldwide. Originally designed to aid learning and create a sense of community in the global online MSc Professional Accountancy (MPAcc) programme, the Icarus Simulation is a bespoke app-based platform supporting accounting students worldwide.

In 2017, the then spreadsheet-based simulation won the Gold Award for Best Learning Simulation at the UK National Learning Technology Awards, with the app-based version now collecting the Innovation in Accounting Award in 2024. With Lynsie Chew out of the country on the evening of the ceremony, the award was collected by UCL School of Management Professor and Deputy Director Alan Parkinson.
