UCL School of Management's Digital Strategy & Transformation Awards 2024

We are excited to announce the Winners and Runners-Up of the fifth Digital Strategy & Transformation Awards led by UCL School of Management Associate Professor Dr Rikke Duus. Part of the second-year MSIN0051 Digital Strategy & Transformation module, students from the BSc Information Management for Business programme (IMB) worked in digital consultancy teams throughout the first 5 weeks of term to propose new digital solutions for selected business clients. Teams worked with multiple digital and AI tools as part of their research, ideation, evaluation and pitch presentations.

In today’s modern business landscape, it is critically important that students receive the opportunity to experiment with digital and AI tools as part of their learning and teamwork. This project is designed to equip students with both relevant digital skills and knowledge about digital business, innovation and consumer practices to support their post-study careers.

The project is designed to cover three phases:

  • Phase 1: Research and Insights Gathering
  • Phase 2: Ideation and Idea Evaluation
  • Phase 3: Digital Solution Presentation

Teams create their own interactive websites that contain their research, application of analytical tools, multimedia content, app prototypes, data visualisations and video-based pitch presentations. This helps to bring the teams’ work to life and makes the project outputs shareable with current and future employers and other relevant individuals.

Week-by-week, teams applied business-related analytical frameworks to assess and evaluate the innovation drive of their chosen organisation, as well as the dynamics of the competitive landscape, shifts in consumer trends and ‘white space’ opportunities to digitally accelerate the organisation’s ability to compete and create value for customers and other key stakeholders. In addition to the more formal lecture sessions, team were also supported during the workshop seminars by Dr Rikke Duus and Teaching Assistant Brian Andrews.

This year, teams have developed digital transformation solutions for a wide range of organisations, including Travelodge, Dunelm, UCL Hospital, Hamleys, Pearson, Lidl and many more. The Digital Strategy & Transformation Award is given out in the Best Digital Transformation Solution category.

The projects selected as the Winner and Runners-up clearly demonstrate the ability to use data and insight effectively, understand the organisation’s strategic direction and identify a viable opportunity for a new digital transformation solution. These teams also showcased their ability to use multiple digital and AI tools as part of their research, ideation, evaluation and presentation.
