Biography

As CTO-in-residence at UCL School of Management and Lead Technologist for Innovation Entrepreneurship at UCL Engineering, Niall provides tech mentorship to UCL spin-out companies and companies based at IDEALondon and StartupBootcamp’s IOT accelerator. Niall has also taught Mobile Web courses for the W3C, who define the web standards. Previously, he worked as a Software Engineer, CTO and consultant for a number of startups building telecom solutions and mobile app software for mobile network operators, banks and airlines.

Niall teaches the Software Engineering course for the IMB programme at School of Mangement and on the Predictive Analytics and Programming for Business Analytics courses on the M.Sc. in Business Analytics.

Niall is part of UCL Institute for Communications and Connected Systems (ICCS) https://www.ucl.ac.uk/iccs/niall-roche and works on an EU 5G project TRIANGLE https://www.triangle-project.eu/ primarily around exploring how SMEs can use the pre-5G Testbed built by TRIANGLE to innovate with 5G networks and infrastructure. He has advised the UK government on their 5G Testbed and Trials programmes and participated in parliamentary briefings in the area of 5G innovation. Niall is also involved with the Facebook Telecom Infrastructure (TIP) project and the TEAK accelerator.

With a keen interest in Disruptive technologies such as ML and Distributed Ledger Technologies, Niall has delivered workshops on the UCL Blockchain Executive Education course ran in conjunction with UCL CBT (Centre for Blockchain Technologies).
