Nelberto Nicholas "Sam" Quinto
PhD Student

Biography
Nelberto Nicholas Quinto, or “Sam” for short, is a doctoral researcher in the Organizations & Innovation group. Sam conducts research on Conflict Management, Creativity, and how using generative AI shapes outcomes and processes in these areas. He is interested in understanding how variation and changes in processes shape outcomes; for example, he studies how groups avoid and resolve impasses (situations where they fail to reach agreement) in contexts of high complexity and decision interdependence, and how using AI either as a tool for augmenting decisions versus automating decisions affects these processes. In other projects, he explores how AI influences the process and experience of producing creative work, as well as how AI shapes culture and norms in teams. Sam uses a variety of research methods. He applies agent-based simulations, machine learning, and qualitative approaches to develop new scientific theories, and experimental and econometric methods to test existing ones.
Before joining UCL, Sam worked as a data scientist at BNP Paribas HQ in Paris and as an analyst in an AI think-tank. He graduated with a Master’s in Management from ESSEC Business School, a Research Master’s in Economics from CY Cergy Paris University, and a Bachelor’s in Management Engineering from the Ateneo de Manila University. His supervisors are Sarah Harvey (creativity and teams) and Joshua Becker (collective intelligence and computational models).
