How AI responsibility rifts are addressed in high-risk, multi-stakeholder crisis contexts

A recent study from UCL School of Management PhD candidate and Adjunct Lecturer Shivaang Sharma and Assistant Professor Angela Aristidou maps the contours of AI responsibility rifts and unveils the frictions and expectations, values, and perspectives about the ethicality of AI tools amongst the stakeholders using them. The study will be published in the forthcoming 2025 MIS Quarterly Executive and, while much is said about the objective risks of AI - such as hallucinations, malicious misuse, or cybersecurity threats - the research in this study addresses a deeper dissonance: AI Responsibility Rifts (AIRR).

MSc Entrepreneurship alumni raise £250,000 in pre-seed funding to support tech recruitment platform Yotewo

After graduating from UCL School of Management’s MSc Entrepreneurship programme in 2021, Aliaksandr Kazhamiakin and Altynay Ashimbayeva launched Yotewo, an online platform revolutionising tech recruitment through connecting businesses of all sizes with experienced tech professionals. Since its conception, Yotewo has seen incredible growth and recently secured a £250,000 investment from London-based VC Symvan Capital. We recently caught up with Aliaksandr and Altynay to find out more about their entrepreneurial journey so far. They share their ambitious plans for 2025 - including the ways in which their recent investment success will support the development of a fully automated platform - as well as the challenges they’ve faced in adapting to the venture capital funding stage and their decision to initially target the UK market.

Since graduating from UCL School of Management’s MSci Management Science programme earlier this year, Kaito has joined NRI (Nomura Research Institute)’s Tokyo Office as a Strategy Consultant within the Sustainability Division. In this role, Kaito has a particular focus on infrastructure development in South West Asia, and enjoys the diversity that his role offers. The MSIN0029 Digital Communications & Marketing elective at UCL, led by Dr. Rikke Duus, attracted over 120 students in 2023-24 and launched the inaugural DCM Awards. Students evaluated communications campaigns and developed strategic digital marketing recommendations, presenting their analyses in video format. Seven submissions were shortlisted, and winners were chosen by industry experts Brian Cheung of TikTok and Jessica Cooke of Stonegate Group for the Most Creative and Visually Impactful Video Presentation and the Most Insightful Research and Value-adding Recommendations.

A Year at Samsung with UCLSoM's Management Science Programme

How to redefine our professions for greater gender equality

Despite decades of progress, women are still severely underrepresented in numerous professions around the globe. In the UK, women represent less than 13% of engineers. Among British firefighters, women are an even smaller minority at less than 7%. For women entering these professions, their underrepresentation can mean facing chronic scepticism and exclusion. This causes many women to exit these careers prematurely, denying them the job they wanted and depriving us of their contributions to society.

The School of Management recently hosted its first ever Virtual Pitch Day for MSc Entrepreneurship. Contestants had to send their applications accompanied by a video elevator pitch to enter. The four most promising businesses were selected to participate. There was a diverse range of businesses chosen from health, finance, food to fashion. With only six minutes to pitch their innovative business ideas, contestants were put to the test.

Having spent several months studying at University College London, I feel obliged to give the world an update on how UCL truly is. Aside from providing a vast experience, I was surprised to see the level of diversity in the student community. I have never seen such diversity in one area, and did not expect to learn so much from students that represent 80 different countries. In fact, some students are seen working 12-13 hours after class, to deliver their very best in coursework and projects. If that does not count as immense dedication, I don’t know what does!
